Hair transplant: 12 Frequently Asked Questions on Hair Transplant

by | 7 June 2021

Hair transplant is an important decision that must be carefully considered. It is essential to know the ins and outs before you undertake any procedure; consulting a trusted professional at one of the PAI Medical Group clinics is the first step to take!

To guide you, Francis Touchette, president of PAI Medical Group, answers the 12 most frequently asked questions about hair transplants.

1. HOW MUCH WILL MY HAIR TRANSPLANT COST?
The cost of a hair transplant procedure depends on several factors, such as the number of hairs to be transplanted. A hair transplant remains a significant investment in the life of our patients. During the first consultation to our clinic, several procedure aspects can be determined, including its cost (starting at $7,800) and the financing options offered by our clinic.
2. IS HAIR TRANSPLANTATION A SOLUTION FOR ME?
Hair transplant is a solution for a large part of our clientele, both men and women. If this solution is not the right one for you, our specialists will guide you towards the right one for your hair loss.
3. IS THE HAIR TRANSPLANT PAINFUL?
The slight discomfort you may feel during the hair transplant procedure will occur during the local anesthesia, which will last only a few minutes. Before the procedure, medication is given to minimize the pain to ensure that you tolerated it as much as possible.
4. HOW LONG DOES THE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE LAST?
The procedure will vary depending on the number of hairs to be transplanted. On average, a hair transplant procedure requires between 3 and 5 hours.
5. SHOULD I TAKE TIME OFF WORK AFTER MY HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Not necessarily. However, we recommend that you reduce your physical activities for 10 days following a hair transplant surgery. If your job requires a lot of physical effort, it is better to take time off work.
6. WILL SCARS BE VISIBLE, AND IF SO, FOR HOW LONG?
The patented MUHG™️ technique allows for a more significant number of transplants per procedure than FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) but also results in a skinny scar that is almost invisible to the naked eye—it will blend in with your existing hair following the surgery.
7. HOW LONG BEFORE THE FIRST SIGNS OF GROWTH ARE VISIBLE?
The first growth will appear within three to four months after the hair transplant.
8. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECOVER FROM A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Recovery from this type of procedure will be fairly quick; you will simply have to avoid physical activities for a period of 10 days.
9. IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONTINUE MY NORMAL ACTIVITIES AFTER A HAIR TRANSPLANT?
As mentioned above, try to avoid physical activities for 10 days; otherwise, don’t drink alcohol for 48 hours following the hair transplant.
10. WHAT MAKES THE PAI MEDICAL GROUP STAND OUT FROM OTHER CLINICS THAT ALSO OFFER HAIR TRANSPLANTS?
The PAI Medical Group has now been in practice for over 45 years! In total, it includes more than 15 clinics throughout North America in a network dedicated solely to the correction and prevention of hair loss for both men and women.
11. TRUE OR FALSE: HAIR TRANSPLANTS WILL HELP NEW HAIR TO GROW.
FALSE: This surgery relocates hair from the back of your head. Therefore the result will vary depending on the quality of your donor area and the number of surgeries you receive over the years.
12. WILL I CONTINUE TO LOSE MY NATURAL HAIR AFTER THE HAIR TRANSPLANT?
Although the hair transplant performed at one of PAI Medical Group’s clinics is considered a permanent solution, natural hair loss will continue. A preventive approach can be proposed (laser therapy, PRP treatments, various products offered by our clinic) and combined with your hair transplant. Our specialists will guide you towards the most appropriate solution!
